Here a volunteer completes a mosaic wall in a home for Battered Women In South London. The team was led by Simon Storey from POD’s CSR division.
Anita Peace painted a Banyan tree she had seen on a visit to Kolkata, India. She captured the tree’s benevolent strength and ability to feed numerous descending aerial shoots which in turn take root, grow into solid trunks and continue to sustain this giant tree family for generations. Anita painted a little child at the base of the tree, enjoying a respite from the blazing heat.
In 2004 Anita met Annie Larner co-founder of ‘The Banyan Trust’, which provides care and education for street children with multiple disabilities. The charity was founded in 1998 the same year that Anita had created this painting in England. She knew instantly where the painting had to go.
Here the painting is being presented to the children in their home outside Kolkata. Anita and POD continue to support The Banyan Trust. Annie continues to be an inspiration to carers and children in Bangladesh and in India. Visit The Banyan Trust.
