A facilitator-led event, taking place over two days (e.g. commencing Thursday evening and ending Saturday afternoon) away from the workplace. Through a selected set of activities and exercises, the offsite aims to aid the Management Team to further develop into a more united, better performing team of professionals.

Course Objectives

By the end of the offsite, the management team members will have:

  • learned about and understood each other better;
  • identified the characteristics of a successful team and benchmarked the team against them;
  • examined the strengths and weaknesses of the team;
  • understood the team’s role within the ‘big picture’
  • explored opportunities and challenges facing the team;
  • identified and prioritised what they need to do to increase team performance;
  • developed and articulated core team values;
  • further developed individual accountability, understanding and ownership of issues;
  • confirmed a set of SMART team objectives for the next 12 months and draw up a team action plan.

Pre-Work

Each participant will complete a team working profile questionnaire (Myers Briggs Test) to be shared and explored at the offsite, giving insight into each other’s behaviour.

Course Outline

  • Introduction & Overview – Confirmation of overview and objectives, setting the expectations for a purposeful and enjoyable workshop.
  • Defining objectives – Participants exchange information and compare objectives for the session.
  • Understanding team – Team exercise, requiring all the members to work together. The exercise will demonstrate the undeniable need for teamwork! Review outcome of the team exercise against the key ingredients of successful teams! This will help clarify issues and give a range of tangible targets to beat over the coming months.
  • Team Roles – Review of the pre-work. Participants share their pre-work results. This will promote mutual understanding, appreciation and knowledge of how to get the best out of each other within the working team.
  • Team Values – Individually and then in groups, participants work on team values for the management team. The activity will end in a group discussion, articulating core team values.
  • Team Exercise – Team or Gaggle? – Re-iterate good teamwork and put it to the test with a new challenge. All sub teams must succeed or the whole team will not succeed.
  • Issue Identification and Prioritisation – Review and revisit progress to date and collect together and prioritise key issues that need to be addressed to ensure the management team’s performance is maximised. These issues are then owned by the team who creatively think and problem solve together and come up with a proposal for action. There will be a focus on thinking techniques, the importance of a proactive mindset and the importance of taking responsibility. The output should be a SMART plan, clearly setting out who will do what, by when to ensure the team objectives are achieved on their return to work.
